FireDos monitors installed on New tank pumpers of the Dortmund Fire Department
Ease of use wins over the fire department: Dortmund firefighters chose FireDos M3 monitors for their new fire trucks.
The Dortmund Fire Department has put three new TLF 10000 tank pumpers into service – all equipped with FireDos M3 fire monitors, including FireDos CAN bus control (central display panel) and radio remote control.
The TLF 10000 is one of the largest tank fire trucks in the German-speaking region. With a 10,000-liter water tank, it is primarily used for large-scale fires, industrial operations, or on highways where high volumes of water are required or water supply is limited.
The Austrian manufacturer Walser integrated one FireDos M3 fire monitor on the roof of each vehicle.

From trade show to vehicle roof: FireDos monitors impress Dortmund Fire Department
At the 112RESCUE trade fair, the Dortmund Fire Department first took notice of our electronically controlled FireDos monitors. During discussions with our fire service expert Tristan Reitz, it quickly became clear that the new TLF 10000 vehicles should, if possible, be equipped with a FireDos M3 monitor featuring this intuitive control system. The department incorporated the technical features and user-friendly operation directly into the Europe-wide tender. Walser, based in Rankweil (Austria), was awarded the contract and implemented the requirements according to the specifications.
Technical features of the FireDos monitors
Each of the three tank pumpers was equipped with:
-
- 1× FireDos M3-DC / AMPN4-DC fire monitor with 24 V swivel unit, 4.3" HMI display, IO box for communication with the vehicle superstructure, and radio remote control.
- All drives and control systems operating on 24 V.
- AMPN multi-purpose nozzle with continuously adjustable jet pattern and flow rate up to 3,000 l/min (preset).
- RFP foam pipe for optional heavy foam generation.
- 24 V swivel unit with fold-down mechanism: during road travel, the monitor folds backward to keep vehicle height minimal; when needed, it can be raised electrically and is immediately ready for operation.
Practical training: Dortmund Fire Department staff on the new tank pumpers
After installation at Walser, a FireDos technician commissioned the monitors on-site at the manufacturer’s factory. The vehicles were recently handed over to the Dortmund Fire Department, and training of the personnel took place directly on the new vehicles. FireDos supported the instruction with an experienced colleague, who is also a volunteer firefighter. The training focused on practical aspects, including operation, emergency procedures, maintenance, and safety of the monitors.
The training was a complete success, as reflected in the participants’ feedback. The intuitive operation of the monitors with clear symbols and the rapid connection of the radio remote control were especially praised. Some participants summed it up perfectly:
That’s easy.
Firefighting technology from firefighters, for firefighters.
The feedback made it clear that the personnel feel confident operating the new tank pumper and are well prepared for upcoming missions. We wish the Dortmund Fire Department a safe return after every call.

With three new TLF 10000 tank pumpers equipped with integrated FireDos M3 monitors, the Dortmund Fire Department now has a powerful, user-friendly solution for demanding operational tasks. The electronic (remote) control system, in particular, impressed the personnel.
